Adrenaline rush Essay This week was so stressful. For the entire whole week, I was assigned to track the advertising history of the company’s sports drink client. I ran through hundreds of video tapes of the sport drink’s advertisement in the span of 5 years, noting each and every aspect in the ideals in their communication style. I was assessing the visual, the content and the semiotics of the whole thing. What’s worse about it is that I have to review the entire set of tapes in the office. I would have liked it watching at home but I have to be confined in the workplace. But knowing it was a job; I accepted the challenge and readied myself for hours and hours of video tapes. But I learned another valuable idea in the media industry concerning contents of the advertising. In a way, it does imply that advertisements do manipulate the consumer behavior. Watching the advertisements of the sport drink, I observed how it evolved into describing the product itself into touching the health issues of the health-conscious and athletes. Like what the sport drink company wants to advertise their latest sports drink product that addresses the more health-conscious consumer, I realized that they now are conscious of the fact that people today likes to know more of the content of their product, and that is their aim in their new advertising venture. Other things I was exposed this week: learning semiotics of the print ads of the sports drink company details on how STG Media Corp. analyzes these given semiotics establishing more communication with the sports drink company developing more personal and professional relationship with the Creative Team (they invited me to one of their deliberations and I get to witness how they brain-storm ideas for the project) Week 4 (provide date) It was a week of adrenaline rush. The Creative Team finalized their output and was presented to the sport drink company. They liked it! With this the whole team was pressed for time. Everybody seemed to be really anticipating the results. I was assigned to track the statistics of how the product is doing in the market after the release of the advertisement. The company has a great way to promote the product and was successfully able to deliver the results for the company. Other thing I learned is that the media industry has many issues to deal with. Like for example, the Creative Team was perfectionists in the sense that after releasing the output in form of the print ad, they wanted to be sure that the effects of the print ad will be evident and reflected through sales. They were still anxious and worried of the end result when in fact; they already did their job by producing a print ad. I realized that many of them really are dedicated in providing the client with their money’s worth. Another thing I realized is that companies take advertisements seriously. I thought that business management theories and ideals only entails that they give importance to advertisements, but through this experience I learned that they are really committed in selling the idea to the consumer. And this generates the influence of media to the consumers. Week 5 (provide date) This week was a mix of tasks. One of the most interesting things exposed to me was the process of reviewing the Creative Team and the advertising project in general. I thought that the evaluation of the employees was done by the executives of the company alone, but at STG Media Corp. , they provide real life processes in dealing with performance issues. The company has an interesting way to evaluate its employees. There is the concept of a performance improvement plan that is drawn between the Human Resource department of the company and from the employee’s manager, in this case the Creative Team head. These reports are then presented to the employees. This draw my attention as I realize that the method of evaluating employees in this company is a non-punitive method that demonstrates how the company recognizes the issues in the Team but are willing to work with the employee and give them opportunity to improve. It was interesting to me because of notice that one particular person was not able to contribute that much in the Creative Team and was not able to contribute much ideas in the process (I was present in almost all their meetings so this is an observation that is true). The evaluation was not very good to him and as a result, the whole Creative Team talked it through the management. The executives of the company then addressed a letter to the employee and showed his performance evaluation. After which, the whole Creative Team approached and talked to him and encouraged him to be open and present his ideas. Turns out, the team member was intimidated with the other professionals he is working with and needs to feel he is welcomed in the team along with his ideas.

Spinster Essay -- Literary Analysis, Sylvia Plath

In the poem â€Å"Spinster† by Sylvia Plath, a girl and her lover take a walk through the woods on a spring day. As they are walking, the lover attempts to make romantic gestures towards the girl, which frightens her. The girl’s physical withdrawal from spring and her act of embracing winter is a metaphor for her fear of love and longing for the predictability and control that is not found in love. While on their walk through the woods, the disorganization that the girl feels emphasizes the girl’s discomfort in embracing unpredictable feelings such as love. The speaker’s choice to begin the poem with the word â€Å"now† implies that this scene of the girl walking with a lover in the woods is not new and it has been seen before (1). The feelings of the girl throughout the poem are reoccurring ones and not just ones of this particular scene. The repetition of her actions further highlights the depth of her fear of love because she is so terrified by the idea of love that she cannot overcome her fear. The description of the girl as â€Å"particular† reveals the speaker’s critical tone as the word describes her as picky and peculiar (1). This foreshadows that the girl is unlike others in her actions. The speaker includes that the walk is occurring in â€Å"April† in order to illustrate that the time they are taking the walk is ideal (2). I nstead of seeing the setting of April as the perfect time to walk, the girl becomes â€Å"struck/By the bird’s irregular babel and the leaves’ litter† (4-6). The girl is irritated by all of the disorganization that is present in spring and love. The girl is unable to control the sound of the birds or the growth of the plants. Nature, like love, happens on its own. This reflects how she feels about love because she is also ... ...self (29-30). The word â€Å"love[‘s]† ability to stand alone on its own line expresses the great threat that love has to the girl. The other words that describe the threats of the man are harsh but grouped together. Love is such a great threat that it carries the weight of all of those threats combined by consuming an entire line. This again enforces the girl’s fear of love, as she believes it has the ability to completely ruin her. The girl’s fear of love causes her to long for control. The title of this poem, â€Å"Spinster,† highlights the speaker’s highly critical tone of the girl. While the girl may not be an old lonely woman yet, the continuation of her actions of withdrawal will cause her to be alone forever. The metaphor used in this poem as spring representing love and winter representing control is perfect because spring is variable while winter is monotonous.

As Billy Joel (2014), songwriter and performer, once said, â€Å"I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music†(para.1). People love music, don’t they? Everyone would agree with that. Music touches us in deep ways that words alone cannot. Music stirs our emotions, makes our bodies move, and has also been used for therapeutic purposes. In the first place, music stirs our emotions and touches us deeply where words cannot. Now, depending on the genre you’re listening to at that point in time, you’re smiling and happy. For example, the song titled â€Å"Happy† by Pharrell Williams is an upbeat song with positive lyrics. Whereas, some really bad rock music can sometimes make you feel angry, depressed, or both. In the Global Post article describing the relationship between music and children’s behavior, â€Å"Children who listen to heavy metal music have a greater propensity for substance abuse and other risky behaviors during adolescence, according to the American Association of Pediatrics† (Wade, 2014, para. 2). Studies are finding that desensitizing lyrics with negative messages tend to encourage misbehavior that is violent or anti-social. There is also inspiring music and music that is sad, but helps to heal your heart when dealing with a loved one’s passing. Music has also made one feel at peace in their surroundings. Music also makes our bodies move. Research on the effects of music during exercise has been done for hundreds of years. In 1911, an American researcher, Leonard Ayres, found that people pedal faster while listening to music than they did in silence. This happens because listening to music can drown out our brain’s cries of fatigue. As our body realizes we’re tired and wants to stop exercising, it sends signals to the brain to stop for a break. This is mostly beneficial for low- and moderate- intensity exercise (Cooper, 2013). Playing different types of instruments makes our bodies move as well. Listening to music during housework is a great way to move. You can dance very silly and no one is around to see it. Music makes us move. Lastly, music has been used in therapy for hundreds of years. Music therapy can start with activities such as shaking a rhythm shaker egg, maracas, or drumming in beat with others, or  it can become an advanced exercise in writing expressive lyrics and singing with a group. The benefit of music helping during a therapeutic procedure is people with brain injuri es can activate the brain in alternate ways, allowing them to regain movement or speech. Studies show that people, especially among teens suffering from depression and sadness, when starting to listen to positive music actually lowers the need for suicide. Also, when children with developmental disabilities, listen to music they love it gives them a fresh new way to communicate and the feeling of being independent. An example of the healing power of music is to watch video a about Henry, an old man who has been living in a nursing home for 10 years. Like some people his age, Henry is suffering from dementia. He forgets things easily and has lost many of his mental abilities. In fact, Henry lives in his own world, often unresponsive to other people. But the nurses discovered that if they let him listen to his favorite music from the past, he is instantly transformed with life energy, and suddenly able to have conversations with the people around him. Music breathes life into his body and mind. It truly is an amazing example of the healing power of music. In conclusion, music truly has a powerful impact on our lives. People opposed to genetically engineered crops believe genetically engineering a crop to have a higher nutritional value will cause problems with a person’s diet. They believe people will then disregard other foods besides the new genetically engineered food, and this will cause other health issues. This does not seem likely because genetically engineered crops with enhanced nutritional value are aimed to help people reach a certain daily value of a vitamin or mineral, not to replace a person’s whole diet. A person will still have to eat other foods with the new genetically engineered food, however, he or she will not have to eat as much to obtain the correct daily values of their vitamins and minerals.
